JATC

The Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee (JATC) is made up of equal numbers of Employer and Employee representatives. They are responsible for revising and following the standards as well as diciplining apprentices and employers. The committee meets quarterly to discuss issues of rerates, discipline, revising of standards and policies, and any other issues that are important to this Apprenticeship.

Top reasons an apprentice meets with the committee:

  • Turning in late or incomplete MPR’s.
  • Working outside the scope of the apprentice license.
  • Absent from class without making up assignments.
  • Any unexcused absenses from class.
  • Having difficulty progressing in class or at work.

Top reasons an employer meets with the committee:

  • Out of Ratio (Apprentice to Employer Ratio)
  • Not paying apprentice or membership fees.
  • Complaints about not complying with standards

Employer Tips:

  • Keep hours of each apprentice clearly documented so we can verify their hours if necessary.
  • The Wage Survey is updated each year in January. Make sure to keep up to date with the pay requirements.
  • Contact Randall Tyle if you have any questions or concerns

Apprentice Tips:

  • Don’t plan on being absent during the beginning of the term unless it is necessary. It is easy to fall behind on your class work
  • Make sure to fill out the category hours, total OJT hours, RT class hours each month
  • Working outside the scope of the Apprenticeship License (ex. Side work, working without supervision from a Journeyman Electrician) has very serious consequences possibly including: Large Fines, Injury or death to others, removed from the program, fired from your current position, etc… Remember these consequences any time a friend asks for a favor to do electrical work.Absent from class more than the allowed absences (3 excused per term)
