Apprentice FAQs

APPRENTICE FAQs

HOW IS MY WAGE DETERMINED?

  • Each year we send out wage surveys to the Training Agents in our program. We use the information to calculate an average wage rate for Journeyman Inside Electricians. An apprentices wages are a percentage of this set wage rate. This is the minimum pay rate that a Training Agent can pay their apprentices.

WHEN DO I GET RAISES AT WORK?

  • It is possible to be re-rated twice a year depending on your work, school, recommendations and any disciplinary issues. Being laid off from work, failing a class or having a poor employer review can all be reasons to postpone a raise in wages. Although an employer can give raises as they see fit they must always pay at least the minimum wage for the apprentices current pay period. See the current MA-3019 Wage Rate 2017 for the most recent changes.

WHO CAN I CONTACT IF I HAVE ISSUES AT SCHOOL OR WORK?

  • Your employer, instructor or the apprenticeship coordinator are all great people to contact if you have some issues. Randall Tyle is the apprenticeship coordinator and can often help ease conflicts between employers and instructors should an issue arise.
  • If an employer is putting you in a dangerous situation (working alone, without safety equipment, etc.. ) it is important that we address the problem as soon as possible to prevent  injury,  fines and even the loss of your ability to pursue an apprenticeship.
  • If you are having trouble in class many of the instructors are more than willing to provide additional materials and one on one support to help you with the course.
